About Us

Alpha Pi Mu was founded in 1949 by Industrial Engineering students at Georgia Tech. Its letters were based on the earlier identified phases of Industrial and Systems Engineering: Administration, Production, and Methods. Alpha Pi Mu was created to be an organization which would allow students to exchange ideas and develop their professional networks. By 1959, Alpha Pi Mu became a part of the Association of College Honors Societies (ACHS), making it the only nationally accepted honors society for Industrial Engineering. Our Rutgers University chapter is one of over 60 active chapters which exist today.

Our mission is to recognize junior, senior, and graduate students who have demonstrated academic excellence in the department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and encourage them to further their knowledge and develop a strong professional network. APM frequently works with the other ISE societies, IISE (Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers) and SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers), to offer programs and activities to all of the Engineering students of Rutgers.

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is an American public research university as well as the largest institution of higher education in New Jersey. Located in New Brunswick and Piscataway, it is home to close to 50,000 undergraduate students and 20,000 graduate students.

From the Rutgers ISE Website: "The undergraduate industrial engineering program at Rutgers provides students with a broad engineering education along with specialization in a wide range of industrial engineering and manufacturing fields. We offer courses in work design and ergonomics, optimization, simulation modeling, probability, manufacturing processes, design of engineering systems, facilities layout, production planning and control, and quality engineering and statistics.

Students work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary project teams to find engineering solutions to real-world industry problems. Our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities emphasize robotics, machine vision, manufacturing, automated material handling, quality engineering, electronic and sensor devices, simulation, and computer information systems."
